Church celebrates 100 years of May Day Breakfast on Monday

On Monday morning, members of First Presbyterian Church in Artesia will continue a 100-year tradition. At the crack of dawn, volunteer cooks will gather at the church to prepare for the centennial anniversary of the May Day Breakfast.
The feast includes scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and, of course, pancakes.
“It’s not a breakfast, it’s a smorgasbord,” said Jess McGary, a member of the church who has been volunteering to help with the breakfast since 1962.
Tickets are $5 and all profits benefit the church’s missionary activities.
“Some have been coming for so many years that I know what time they will show up,” McGary said.
