On Jan. 18 in Carlsbad, the Bulldogs found themselves the victims of Murphy’s Law.

From shooting to rebounding to turnovers to foul trouble, it seemed that every little thing that could go wrong did for the Artesia boys, and the result was a lopsided loss to the Class 5A Cavemen, 62-39.

Head coach Ike Montoya and his staff made clear to the ‘Dogs what it would take to prevent a repeat performance Saturday night at Bulldog Pit: get off to a solid start, cut down on turnovers, work hard on the boards, and finish shots. And by game’s end Saturday, the ‘Dogs were able to check each one of those items off their to-do list.

On the legs of a frenetic first-half effort that saw them up by 12 at the break and two more solid quarters of offense in the second, the Bulldogs completed the sweep of county rival Carlsbad before an appreciative home crowd, 70-55. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
