A 17-year-old Artesia teen was arrested Wednesday when members of the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force and New Mexico Probation and Parole discovered items consistent with the production of explosive devices at a residence located on Funk Road.
Jeremy Devon Baker, the alleged owner and creator of the devices, was charged with possession of explosives.
Law Enforcement officers initially served a search warrant at the residence of Baker and his mother, Barbara Kinnibrugh, with the intention of locating and arresting a probation and/or parole violator. Officers allegedly found suspicious items, instead, which led them to search Baker’s room.
Inside a red trunk in the teen’s bedroom, officers said they located an “old police-style walkie talkie that had a red … stick item wrapped in black plastic tape and showed to have two black wires coming from … the stick.”
Also allegedly discovered in the bedroom were what appeared to be a shotgun shell with black plastic tape and a fuse protruding from the top, a Christmas ball ornament with a fuse protruding from the top, firecrackers with fuses comparable to those used in the devices, empty bullet casings and a paper funnel apparently used to pour gunpowder into the devices. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
