Lauer brings an all new medical specialty to Artesia

For the first time in the town’s history, Artesia General Hospital has a full-time cardiologist on staff.

The hospital recently hired Dr. Robert Lauer, a physician who has brought with him nearly 30 years of experience.

“I thought it would be such a challenge to set up a cardiology program where there has never been one,” Lauer said on Monday. “I look forward to giving something to the community that it has never had before.”

Heart patients who once had to travel to receive care will now have the convenience of a local cardiologist.

“I don’t intend to replace technology,” Lauer said. “I intend to be a primary care cardiologist and make proper referrals. I don’t want to take away from other physicians; I want to be a liaison.”
