QUEEN – The Last Chance fire burning five miles west of Queen reached 49,000 acres yesterday and was 60 percent contained by 8:30 p.m.
Progress on the fire was made with work from firefighters, air resources and favorable weather.
Successful burnout operations continued Tuesday night until the relative humidity became too high.
Moderate fire behavior was observed adjacent to N.M. 137, so a firing operation was conducted around the United States Forest Service Queen Administration Site to tie into existing containment boundary. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
