ARTESIA — The Artesia Arts Council is excited to announce this year’s upcoming “Theatre Camp, Missoula Style!” will run Aug. 5-10.
Theatre camp is a fun format for children ages 5-18 to learn every facet of “putting on a show,” from casting and rehearsing to designing and building costumes and sets.
Auditions and casting will take place on the first day of camp, Monday, Aug. 5, and then a detailed schedule for each parent and cast member will be created for participants. Rehearsals will take place Aug. 6-9, and the final play performance will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug.10, at the Ocotillo Performing Arts Center.
This year’s play is the “Journey of the Noble Gnarble” by Denver Casado, which tells the story of a little Gnarble, the lowliest of sea creatures, with a big dream: to reach the surface of the sea! Along the way, he meets Blyfish, Subbalubbles, and Plinks, and learns the importance of positivity and determination. Several songs and dances keep the action moving.
This year’s “Theatre Camp, Missoula Style!” instructor is professional dancer, actor, choreographer, and musical director Olin Davidson. Davidson has travelled all over the world, appearing in such productions as “Mary Poppins,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “My Fair Lady,” “Mamma Mia!”, and “Cats,” among many others. He also teaches dance and will be offering classes in theatre and musical theatre this fall as part of the Artesia Arts Council’s Fall Class lineup.
“Theatre Camp, Missoula Style!” is a rare opportunity for Artesia’s youth to learn theatre arts from a true theatre professional.
Registration is $75 for the entire camp and includes a t-shirt, two lunches, and a ticket for the final performance Aug. 10. Registration can be completed online at http://www.artesiaartscouncil.com, by calling 746-4212, or by visiting the OPAC box office.
