ARTESIA — An Artesia man has been arrested on multiple counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor and incest.

Artesia Police Department officers were dispatched June 12 in reference to possible child sexual abuse. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 14-year-old juvenile, who told police her father, David Hendrix, had forced her to engage in acts of intercourse at their residence in the 1300 block of Grand Avenue.

During a forensic interview, the girl told investigators Hendrix would wait until the girl’s mother was out before assaulting her, then told her he would “hurt her” or that she would “be in big trouble” if she told anyone. The three counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor occurred between May 14 and June 12. Hendrix was also subsequently charged with three counts of incest.

Hendrix was taken into custody on the afternoon of July 17. He is scheduled to appear for preliminary examination July 31.
