The Artesia Police Department and other area agencies are continuing to investigate a shooting that took place Thursday afternoon. Pictured above is law enforcement presence in the area of Grand Avenue and 12th Street.

The initial call came in at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, and police are now seeking a suspect in connection with the crime.

Tyler William Brewer, 25, is described as 5’8″, 160 pounds, with blue eyes and several tattoos, including a “Playboy” bunny on his chin; a Zia symbol, the letter “C,” and a skull near his right eye; and “Carlsbads” on his right jaw. Brewer’s last known address is 405 Cleveland Ave., Artesia.

Police say Brewer has outstanding warrants in connection with the shooting, and anyone with potential information as to his whereabouts is urged to call the APD at 746-5000.

According to Cmdr. Lindell Smith of the APD, a 29-year-old male with a last known address in Roswell was injured by the gunfire Thursday and was airlifted to Lubbock, Texas, with significant injuries. The individual drove himself to the area of Artesia General Hospital and was quickly moved inside.

Smith says no arrests have yet been made, and evidence and statements are being collected. At last check, the victim was listed in serious but stable condition.
