One man has been arrested in connection with a weekend shooting in Roswell that injured four.
The Roswell Police Department says the investigation is continuing into the incident, which occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday at a residence in the 1300 block of West College Boulevard and Montana Avenue where numerous people had gathered for a party.
RPD officers were initially called to the scene around 2:10 a.m. Sunday in reference to reports of shots fired. Witnesses stated two males were seen fighting in front of the house before one of the males pulled out a gun and shot at the other.
In the ensuing activity, four people were shot. The victims – all men, ages 18, 20, 20 and 21 – were driven in private vehicles to local hospitals. Three of the victims suffered what were believed to be non-life-threatening wounds. One man had a gunshot wound to his hand, the second man to his arm, and the third man to his hip. The fourth victim had a gunshot wound to his chest. On Monday morning, he was listed in stable condition.
The investigation led to the arrest early Sunday afternoon of Isaac Ray Chavez Jr., 22, of Roswell. He is charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Chavez was booked into the Chaves County Detention Center without bond to await arraignment.
As the investigation continues, the possibility exists Chavez could face additional charges.
RPD detectives also believe he may not have been the only shooter, and they are asking anyone with potential information that could help identify additional suspects possibly involved in this shooting to contact the RPD at 624-6770 or Chaves County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-594-TIPS (8477).
