Children dressed as shepherds and angels wave at the crowds lining Main Street Thursday in the downtown district during the Xcel Energy Parade of Lights. A variety of brightly-lit floats and vehicles made their way past the multitudes that turned out to enjoy holiday shopping and mild weather during Artesia MainStreet’s annual Light Up Artesia event. Following the parade, local children made their way to the Ocotillo Performing Arts Center or Bennie’s Western Wear to whisper their Christmas wishes in Santa’s ear, and families strolled the downtown area until around 8:30 p.m., enjoying the lights and treats from sidewalk vendors.
