Visitation will be held from 8:30 – 9:15 a.m., followed by a rosary from 9:30-10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace. Family will gather following the services at the home of Benny and Corinne Guzman.
Celia was born Oct. 4, 1927, in Redford, Texas, to Elonercio and Manuela Dominguez.
On Oct. 27, 1950, she married Benancio Guzman Sr. in Littlefield, Texas.
Celia became a widow and single mother at the age of 30 with four young children to raise and moved to Artesia. Her faith in God, hard work, and determination to provide for herself and her children prevailed.
She was known as Grandma or Granny, with the exception of Boysis (Benny Guzman III), who fondly called her Graham Cracker. She had a sweet tooth for Hershey bars with almonds and Coca-Cola. You often found her with needle and thread in hand. No sewing machine for this grandma. Her quilts and blankets were one of a kind. She enjoyed making baby blankets, pajamas, sock monkeys, small stuffed animals, and doll clothes for her grandchildren. She once made a Cabbage Patch doll and named her “Bocha.”
Survivors include son Benny Guzman, wife Corinne, and son Ediberto Guzman; granddaughters Stephanie Rascon Montes, Angela Guzman Baca, Vanessa Guzman Garcia, Noami Guzman Ortega, and Sara Guzman; grandsons Eric Guzman, Benny Guzman III, Justin Guzman, Japeth Rascon, Israel Rascon, Roberto Rascon, and Hector Lorenzo Guzman; 32 great-grandchildren; sisters Nellie Alvarez, Alicia Shrivers and Armida Flores; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents Elonercio and Manuela Dominguez; husband Benancio Guzman Sr.; daughter Odelia Rascon; son Hector Lorenzo Guzman; brothers Felix Dominguez, David Dominguez and wife Paula Dominguez, and Alberto Dominguez and wife Erlinda Dominguez; and sister Margie Valenzuela and husband Alfredo Valenzuela.
The family wishes to thank J&J Home Care. Special thanks to her compassionate caregiver, Rosa Lopez.
