Daily Prophet Sports Editor Brienne Green received a first-place award in Sportswriting this weekend in the New Mexico Press Association Better Newspaper Contest.

Green received the award for her piece “Bulldogs win No. 30.”

“This is a game story but so much more,” wrote the judge, who hailed from the Maryland, Delaware and D.C. Press Association. “It gives the reader a sense of the history and tradition of this storied program and its importance to the community. The top of the piece paints that bigger picture artfully, and the writer moves on smoothly to pick up game details without burying the reader in statistics. The story is nicely written throughout and ends with a perfect quote.”

Green also took second place in Sports Coverage.

She eagerly awaits the upcoming Quidditch season.
