Carol Ruggles

Memorial services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Levy Church of Christ in North Little Rock, Ark., for Carol Lucille (Northam) Ruggles of North Little Rock.

Ruggles, 78, passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, surrounded by family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Charles Bryan “Jack” Ruggles.

Interment will precede the services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Little Rock National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Roller-Owens Funeral Home in North Little Rock.

Carol was born July 7, 1940, in Artesia to Thurman Norris and Hotona Lucille (Hendrix) Northam. She attended Eastern New Mexico University and Abilene Christian College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from ENMU and, later, earning her master’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

As an educator for more than 40 years, Carol taught in Roswell and in North Little Rock at Crestwood Elementary and Lakewood Middle School.

Jack and Carol travelled every Sunday and Wednesday for 23 years from North Little Rock to Clarendon, Ark., to minister at the local church. She was a member of the Levy Church of Christ and, throughout her life, taught children’s Bible classes. She was a devoted student of the Bible and spent her life teaching about Christ and serving others, especially children. She absolutely adored her grandchildren. She spent time reading with them, attending school and sports activities, and encouraging their spiritual growth and faith.

Carol had a talent for drawing and watercolor. She attended local art class at the Hays Center. She was an avid tennis player, member of the North Little Rock Retired Teachers Association, and enjoyed walking the Lakewood lakes and meeting with her Coffee Klatch on Friday mornings.

Survivors include daughters Laura Lucille Frost and husband Don Alan of North Little Rock, and Minda Annette Ruggles of Calabasas, Calif.; grandchildren Zane and Kiley Frost; sisters Brenda Allen of Rio Rancho and Iris Westfall and husband Darrell of Glencoe, Okla.; brothers Thurman Northam and wife Carol, and Roy Northam, both of Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
