The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of other local agencies, recently completed its Sex Offender Validation Operation in Eddy County.

Sheriff Mark Cage reports that from Sept. 27-28, the ECSO Detective Division, along with the New Mexico State Police, Artesia Police Department, Carlsbad Police Department and Loving Police Department, conducted a successful operation to identify and verify information from sex offenders within the county.

The following information was determined as a result of the sweep:

• 121 sex offenders are living within Eddy County.
• 30 are pending verification.
• six are currently incarcerated.
• 14 sex offenders were found to be non-compliant, resulting in potential fourth- and third-degree felony charges.

The ECSO says it will be following up its sweep with other validation efforts in order to verify all state laws pertaining to sex offender registration are being followed.

Cage stated he appreciates all agencies that assisted in the operation and recommends any citizen with concerns about sex offender registration contact the ECSO at 575-887-7551 or 746-9888.
