A California man was killed Sunday in a single-vehicle accident between Roswell and Vaughn.

New Mexico State Police were dispatched around 10:23 a.m. Sunday to U.S. 285 near mile marker 152. Initial investigation revealed a 2001 Toyota, driven by Laureano Gaspar, 22, of Escondido, Calif., was travelling south on 285 when, for unknown reasons, it left the roadway and rolled.

Gaspar sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor, and seatbelts were properly utilized. The wreck remains under investigation.
