An Artesia man was killed early Saturday morning after his vehicle collided with a semi truck.

Around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, New Mexico State Police officers were dispatched to a fatal crash involving a semi-tractor-trailer and a Toyota sedan on U.S. 285 near mile marker 67 south of Artesia.

Preliminary information indicates the semi truck was travelling south on U.S. 285 when the sedan, also heading south, collided into the rear of the semi.

The driver of the sedan, Ryan Orona, 24, of Artesia, sustained fatal injuries. A passenger in the sedan was transported from the scene with injuries. No information was provided as to that individual’s condition. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
