Della Harcrow

Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Twin Oaks Memorial Park for Della Mae “Hubby” Harcrow of Artesia.

Harcrow, 81, passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, at Artesia General Hospital.

Nolan Frederick will officiate the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Hubby was born April 15, 1937, in Nogal, the daughter of Samuel Virgil and Agnes Mae (Snell) Jones. She was one of 10 children.

On Aug. 9, 1954, she married Donald L. “Pappy” Harcrow in Capitan.

Hubby was a longtime Artesia resident, coming from Capitan, where she grew up. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and the Artesia Moose Lodge. She retired in 1995 from the Artesia Public Schools, where she worked as a baker in the cafeterias for 25 years. She served several generations of children, who all knew her as Hubby.

Survivors include daughter Mary Dell Harcrow of Artesia; son Donald Richard Harcrow and wife Karen of Logan; sisters Pearl Cheney and husband Joseph of La Feria, Texas, Loretta Stahl and husband Stan of San Angelo, Texas, Francis Saunders and husband Henry of Roswell, and Nancy Hatch and husband Brad of Tucson, Ariz.; brothers C.G. Shorty Jones of Hennessey, Okla., Sam Jones of Capitan, Roy Jones of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Clyde Jones and wife Nancy of Enville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pappy Harcrow, on July 23, 2011; her parents; son Kenneth Lee Harcrow; and sister Vada Armstrong.
