The Carlsbad Police Department and Crime Stoppers of Eddy County are seeking the public’s assistance solving an attempted murder that occurred last month in Carlsbad.
In the morning hours of July 16, 21-year-old Fabian Sandoval was found on the railroad tracks near the dog park on East Lea Street, covered in blood and missing his right hand and most of his left arm. While being treated on scene by EMS, Sandoval was also discovered to have a severe skull fracture.
The victim later informed police he had been walking home around midnight on July 15 and stopped to speak with approximately five transients – three male, two female – at a picnic table at MLK Park in Carlsbad. One of the males was identified as a repeat inmate at the Eddy County Detention Center, an individual who goes by the street names “Sleepy” or “Ralph” and walks with a slight limp.
Sandoval told police his money, identification and phone were all missing.
