Two Hobbs men were killed Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle accident on New Mexico State Road 31.

New Mexico State Police officers were dispatched around 8 a.m. Tuesday to the scene near mile marker 19 on SR 31 east of Carlsbad.

There, they found a 1999 Dodge pickup that had been travelling south on SR 31 had, for reasons that remain under investigation, left the roadway, overcorrected, and rolled.

Mario Pinion Medrano, 23, and Marcos Acosta, 25, both of Hobbs and both passengers in the truck, sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 21-year-old Hobbs man, was also injured.

The NMSP say alcohol does not appear to have been a factor, but it appears none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
