A Carlsbad man was arrested Wednesday after kicking in a door at a local apartment complex.

Artesia Police Department officers were dispatched around 11 a.m. Saturday to the Canyonstone Apartments in reference to a report of breaking and entering.

There, they were advised by the victim that an individual had kicked in the door to her apartment and left items inside.

No one was located inside the apartment, but a large knife was left in a flowerpot outside and a pistol case containing .22 ammunition on the victim’s bed, none of which belonged to her.

Officers had earlier made contact with a man identified as Allan Sanchez, 39, of Carlsbad, after a neighbor contacted police about a male individual kicking and throwing a flowerpot at the victim’s door. Sanchez was subsequently identified as the perpetrator, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He was taken into custody Wednesday on charges of breaking and entering (forcible entry) and criminal damage to property. Sanchez is scheduled for a 10 a.m. preliminary examination Sept. 5 before Judge Daniel Reyes Jr. in Artesia Magistrate Court.
