TO THE EDITOR:
This is in response to the Eddy County Commissioners meeting Aug. 7, 2018. Ordinance #0-18-95 was passed regarding authorizing operation of off road vehicles on paved roads controlled by Eddy County.
The ordinance was full of unnecessary rules that the public will find hard to adhere to. The chairperson, Susan Crockett, and Wesley Hooper misquoted and misinformed the committee about the Otero County Off Road Ordinance in saying their ordinance did not discuss driving on county roads, which it did.
The opinion of the Eddy County Sheriff was not important to the commissioners.
The ordinance could have been simpler, like the one from Otero County (one-and-a-half pages) instead of the six pages presented. Most is repetitious to Section 66-3-1001 through 66-3-1020 of the New Mexico State Statutes.
People in Eddy County need to attend these meetings and give their opinion. If not able to attend, contact your county commissioner and give them your opinion.
Question: What is wrong when four out of five commissioners are not voted back in for a second term? The only one that was voted in was unopposed. The voters of Eddy County are not being listened to or taken seriously.
