New Mexico’s representation in the 2018 Little League World Series came a few steps short of Williamsport Tuesday evening in Southwest Regional play.

Carlsbad Shorthorn had a long fight back into contention after falling in their regional opener Aug. 2, 6-3 to Tulsa National of Oklahoma.

The Southern Eddy County squad proceeded to defeat East Brownsville, Texas (6-5), Franklin County, Miss. (10-6), and South Lake Charles, La. (3-0) over the course of the next four days to earn a spot in the elimination bracket final and a chance at the Southwest championship game.

They came up a single run short of Tulsa National Tuesday evening, however, 3-2.

Tulsa went on to fall to Post Oak, Texas, 8-0 this afternoon. Post Oak advances to the Little League World Series.
