Jesus Arreola

Also Wednesday in south Roswell, the RPD was able to apprehend another man soon after a homicide.

Jesus Arreola, 35, was taken into custody shortly after a shooting that occurred around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in front of a residence in the 1100 block of South Kentucky Avenue.

Arreola, of Portales but living recently in Roswell, is charged with second-degree murder.

Police found the victim, Johnny L. Fleming, 32, of Roswell, lying in his front yard with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported by EMS to a local hospital, where he later died.

Arreola was found sitting in a car parked outside the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office soon after. He spoke with a dispatcher and a RPD sergeant while still in the car, and sheriff’s deputies and officers positioned around it could see he was holding a gun. After 20 minutes, Arreola exited the car, leaving the gun inside, and surrendered.

He is being held without bound at the Chaves County Detention Center.
