The Artesia Public Library and the Artesia Historical Museum and Art Center are partnering for the APL’s Summer Reading Program STEAM Lab Wednesday, June 27, by presenting an “Archaeologist for a Day” event at the museum.

The program will be a come-and-go event for families, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and will feature several stations in the museum’s yard that will allow visitors to experience a variety of archaeological activities.

Visitors will be able to assemble a model bison skeleton, match objects to the correct underground layer, identify soil samples, identify projectile points (arrow and spear heads), make a bison-tooth necklace (while supplies last), AND dig in the dirt for artifacts!

There will also be bones to examine and a coloring table for artists.

We are grateful to the Blackwater Draw Museum for loaning us their educational trunk and making this event possible. Our event will be rescheduled in case it rains. Call 748-2390 for more information.
