A gold SUV sits incapacitated at the intersection of 20th and Main streets Friday morning following a two-vehicle accident that led to one driver’s arrest. According to police reports, the gold SUV was heading west on Main Street at a high rate of speed when it swerved and struck a dark-blue SUV as it was making a legal left turn onto 20th Street. The driver of the gold SUV reportedly told Artesia Police Department officers she had taken four prescription pills that morning for head pain. She was subsequently placed under arrest for driving under the influence and was issued three citations for reckless driving, expired license, and no insurance. The wreck also felled a pedestrian signal at the intersection, with an estimated replacement cost of $5,000.
