The Artesia Police Department is currently investigating a drive-by shooting incident that occurred late Tuesday in Artesia.

Dispatch fielded 10 calls regarding shots fired around 11 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Ninth Street and Clayton Avenue.

According to APD Cmdr. Lindell Smith, a minimum of three vehicles were found struck by bullets, along with one home and another residence’s air-conditioning unit.

No injuries were reported.

Smith says the APD is continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with potential information is urged to call the department at 746-5000.

Artesia police were also called to act as security Thursday morning in the Morningside area in reference to another report of shots fired.

At least one individual was transported to Artesia General Hospital with a gunshot wound.

That investigation was turned over to the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office, and no details were available as of press time.
