Above, local boys work on their receiving skills during the Mega Sports Camp this morning at Zia Intermediate School. Below, just a few of the more than 300 participants in the camp take a break as they line up for snacks. Local youth minister Russ Panzer of First United Methodist Church says this is the ninth year of “a community of churches coming together to teach and love on the kids of the community. And if they also learn a new skill or discover a sport they love, that’s just an added bonus.” The event is sponsored by First United Methodist Church, West Main Baptist Church, Catalyst Church and Harvest Fellowship and offers the youth of Artesia instruction from local coaches and athletes in football, soccer, basketball and cheerleading, as well a daily Bible lesson.
