Representatives of the Artesia Aquatic Center Foundation (AACF), the City of Artesia, the Artesia Public Schools, Artesia General Hospital, and other entities send their ceremonial shovelfuls of dirt into the air Friday during a groundbreaking ceremony for the Artesia Aquatic Center. AACF President Sandra Borges spoke to a gathering of onlookers at the site of the Center, in the vacant lot west of Bowman Drive and Bush Avenue, about the project, which is set to be completed in two phases. The first phase will be the outdoor, recreational portion and is slated for a Memorial Day Weekend 2019 completion. The second will include an indoor competition pool; its construction and completion dates have yet to be finalized.
