Kris “Tanto” Paronto, author of “The Ranger Way,” will speak Saturday in Carlsbad during a “Salute to America” presentation, sponsored by the Eddy County Republican Party.

Paronto was a member of the CIA Annex security team that responded Sept. 11, 2012, to an attack on the annex in Benghazi, Libya. He and his teammates helped to save more than 20 lives while defending the annex for more than 13 hours. Four Americans – U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Ty Wood and Glen Doherty – were killed in the attack.

Paronto’s story and those of his fellow surviving security team members is told in the book “13 Hours” by Mitchell Zuckoff.

Tickets to the “Salute to America” event are $50 each and available online at eventbrite.com or by calling 706-1786.
