Also present at the time of the incident were Brittney Ramirez, 28, of Carlsbad, and Aubree Pando, 22, of Artesia.
Ramirez, charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and concealing identity, is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. May 2 preliminary examination on those charges in Artesia Magistrate Court. Pando, who was arrested on two outstanding felony warrants, is scheduled to appear in Fifth Judicial District Court at 2:30 p.m. May 7 for a probation violation hearing.
The five were taken into custody on the afternoon of March 15, when a New Mexico State Police officer on patrol near Artesia overheard a dispatch communication regarding an attempted kidnapping near 26th Street and Fairgrounds Road.
The officer arrived to find the five individuals surrounding another vehicle. They attempted to flee the scene but were stopped without incident.
The occupants of the other vehicle told police they had been chased by the quintet until they ran out of gas, at which point they were ordered out of their car at gunpoint. They claim to have owed the suspects a $5 drug debt.
