A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, March 29, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Esther Mendez Aguilar.
Aguilar, 87, passed away Friday, March 23, 2018. Our beloved mother and abuela completed her life’s journey surrounded by her family.
Fr. Vijay will officiate the services, with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Rene Aguilar, Francisco Sanchez, Fabian Aguilar, Chris Aguilar, Esteban Franklin, Julian Aguilar and Eric Aguilar.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home Chapel in Roswell. Visitation will be held from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace, followed by a rosary at 9:30 a.m.
Esther was born in 1931 in Wiley, Colo., to Antonio and Mauvricia Mendez.
On Aug. 18, 1949, she married Roberto Cirilo Aguilar and moved to La Esperanza, Texas. The couple moved to Artesia in 1965 and made it their home.
Esther was an amazing and hardworking mother who dedicated herself to raising her children and being a devoted wife. Throughout her life, she was involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren.
She actively participated in activities at her church, Our Lady of Grace. Esther was an avid reader and an excellent cook, and enjoyed embroidering, sewing and gardening. She inspired others to live life to its fullest and will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include children Robert Aguilar and wife Elida, Hilda Sanchez and husband Frank, and Esther Aguilar, all of Roswell, Ramon Aguilar, Olivia Aguilar and Pedro Aguilar, all of Albuquerque, Octavio Aguilar of Tulsa, Okla., and Arturo Aguilar and wife Beniece of Texas; grandchildren Rene Aguilar, Fabian Aguilar, Francisco Sanchez, Gabriela Sanchez Graebner, Marissa Aguilar, Danielle Aguilar, Estevan Franklin, Crisela Aguilar, Christopher Aguilar, Kimberly Watts, Safire Florez, Rebecca Aguilar, Eric Aguilar, Erin Aguilar and Julian Aguilar; 29 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews of El Paso, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Roberto; sons Fermin, Hector and Jesus Aguilar; grandchildren Robert Lee, Brandon, Anthony and Demetrio Aguilar, and Marlon Thompson; parents Antonio and Mauvricia Mendez; and sister Rebecca Mendez of El Paso.
