A second Artesia teen has been arrested for their role in a December 2017 attempted burglary and pursuit with police.

Christopher Jose Delao, 18, was arrested Friday on charges of conspiracy to commit burglary.

Delao was one of two teens apprehended immediately after the vehicle in which they were fleeing from police wrecked into the front yard of a home at the intersection of Bowman and Cannon avenues Dec. 19, 2017.

A third teen, Baylor Gray, 17, of Artesia, was able to elude authorities on foot but was identified and contacted later that day. Gray was arrested Feb. 19 on charges of conspiracy to commit burglary and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.

The teens had been spotted the afternoon of Dec. 19 in the area of Cerro Road wearing ski masks and backpacks, and jumping the fences of homes. According to statements provided by two of the teens, they had intended to rob a home and were jumping fences in an attempt to locate an unlocked back door.

They eventually did but spotted a large dog inside and ran back to their vehicle. The vehicle was spotted by the authorities, who attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Following a brief pursuit, the teens’ vehicle wrecked, and the three began to flee on foot.

The first apprehended teen, against whom charges are currently pending, spoke with police in the presence of his guardians. Gray’s parents contacted police after he returned home, and officers interviewed him there.

Delao and his guardian declined to speak with police.
