Been telling everyone for years how big a hit your old high-school variety show routine was, regardless of what your classmates had to say on the subject? Now’s your chance to prove it.
The Artesia Community Theatre will host “ACT Follies” March 2-4, and the community is encouraged to participate. Tryouts will be held at 6:30 p.m. today and at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, in the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 1006 W. Bullock Ave.
The dessert theatre revue is open to singers, dancers, and those interested in performing 15-minute plays or comedy sketches. And while facilitator Sandy Schuetz points out the definition of “follies” is “a revue usually accompanied by barely-clothed women,” prospective auditionees are reminded it will be a family-friendly event… held in a church.
Singers will be asked to provide their own music or accompanist – a piano is available. Those wishing to perform skits or routines, either individually or with a group, are asked to adhere to the 15-minute time limit. Skits need not be complete for tryouts, and those interested in being part of a skit but not yet having a specific idea in mind are encouraged to attend; arrangements can be made.
Participation will be free to ACT members, $10 for non-members. There is no charge to audition.
Auditions are open to children of any age participating with a parent, and teens as well as adults.
The ACT would like to organize dress rehearsals Tuesday, Feb. 27, and Thursday, March 1. In between, certain times will be available by appointment for those wishing to practice on the church stage.
The revue will consist of three performances: 7 p.m. Friday, March 2, and Saturday, March 3, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4.
Treats from Sweet Confections by K&M will be served to the public, including turtle brownies, gluten-free pecan bars, and Carmelitas, all with an a la mode option.
