The 10th Annual Artesia Bulldog Bowling Invitational will be held this weekend at Artesia Lanes.

The Bulldog bowling team is the defending Class 5A state champion and will be looking forward to its once-a-year opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd at their home alley.

Sixteen schools and 42 teams comprised of 210 bowlers will compete, beginning with the first squad of 14 teams bowling at 1 p.m. Friday. The second squad of the tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the final squad scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m. Saturday. The Bulldogs will have bowlers competing in all squads of the tournament, with the Artesia No. 1 Advanced team rolling in the 1:15 p.m. Saturday squad.

Schools attending the Bulldog Invitational will include Albuquerque High, Cibola, Cleveland, Del Norte, Deming, East Mountain, Eldorado, Espanola Valley, La Cueva, Las Cruces, Manzano, Rio Rancho, Sandia High, Sandia Prep and Volcano Vista.

“I really hope that the Artesia sports fans will come out and see what these talented young bowlers have going on out at the bowling center,” said bowling coach Ken Clayton. “We are proud of what the Artesia High bowling program has become and the effort and hard work it has taken to bring home three state championships in the past five years.

“This is the strongest team we have ever had, and they are really fun to watch.”
