The Artesia Downtown Lions Club recently sponsored its annual Peace Poster Contest for sixth-grade students in Juli Newton’s class at Zia Intermediate School. This year’s theme was “Future of Peace.” Students must depict the theme using only images; the posters are then judged by the Downtown Lions. The winning poster will advance to the district level for possible further advancement to state and nationals. This year’s first-place winner was Josephine Luevano, second from right. Pictured with Luevano are, from left, Newton, third-place finisher Cate Douglas, second-place finisher Sara Sanchez, and Lions Club member Diana Garrett. The Lions wish to thank Newton and all of the students who participated in the contest.
