Ja-hmariay Quentell McDavid

A Roswell man was killed this afternoon (Friday, Jan. 5) when a domestic dispute turned deadly.

The incident occurred shortly before noon in the 200 block of West Mathews Street in Roswell and involved a domestic dispute between relatives and their boyfriends and girlfriends.

A resident of the home called 911 around 11:50 a.m. to report the dispute had ended in a shooting. The victim, Milton Wayne Hopkins, 37, was transported by EMS to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Responding Roswell Police Department officers were given the name and a description of the shooter but were unable to locate him. Later in the afternoon, however, the suspect, Ja-hmariay Quentell McDavid, 19, arrived at the RPD, accompanied by family members, to turn himself in.

McDavid was booked into the Chaves County Detention Center on charges of voluntary manslaughter. He is being held tonight without bond.
