Crime scene tape surrounds the front of Southwest Body and Towing this afternoon as Eddy County Sheriff’s Office deputies and county fire personnel work the scene of a fire-related incident. ECSO Lt. Matt Hutchinson says the investigation is centered around a breaking and entering that resulted in a fire. The Artesia Police Department was dispatched as an assisting agency at 5:08 a.m. and noted black smoke emanating from one side of the building. The APD left the scene to the ECSO at 5:52 a.m. Additional details will be published as they become available.
