TO THE EDITOR:

Dear “City of Champions,”

On behalf of the Artesia Downtown Lions Club, I would like to personally thank all the businesses and individuals for the tremendous support shown to our club during our 23rd Annual Tailgate Party.

We are always pleasantly amazed and humbled by the generous spirit and faithfulness shown by all of Artesia and our surrounding neighbors in supporting the many causes of our local club! Tailgates take an inordinate amount of time and effort in planning and staging these events and things don’t always go as planned, and we would like to say a special thank-you to store manager Ron Sponagel and his entire staff at Fenn’s Country Market for helping accommodate us on some last minute crises.

We would like to give special recognition to the following sponsors and donors which enabled us to far exceed all our expectations and goals as we strive to help the kids of this community.

Special thanks goes out to Sweatt Construction Co., Ralph “Skip” Nix, Brad and Nancy Larson, HollyFrontier Corp., Fenn’s Country Market, Mike Brady/Little Debbie Snacks, Chaos Cafe, Bobcat Production, Artesia MainStreet, Sonic, Affiliated Foods, Central Valley Electric Cooperative, and Henry’s BBQ. Your generosity enabled us to help defray or minimize the costs associated with the tailgate and allow us to maximize our funds to further support our Junior Lions scholarship program and expand our vision screening goals for all the kindergarten students, Head Start programs in Artesia, and many elementary students throughout the district. Your commitment to helping the Artesia Downtown Lions Club fundraising endeavors in our community is sincerely appreciated.

The motto of the Lions Club is “We Serve,” and special recognition needs to go out to all the Artesia Downtown Lions Club members and Junior Lions for their volunteering efforts in helping our 23rd Annual Tailgate Party to be a rousing success. Your service and commitment continue to make a difference in our efforts to serve those in our community and fulfill the vision of Lions International.

Thanks again for your generous support of our tailgate party and once again proving that Artesia really is the “City of Champions.”

Best wishes,
Gary D. Scott Jr.
Vice President
