Nino Chavarria

A memorial mass is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Adam “Nino” Chavarria of 2318 S. Texas St., Roswell.

Chavarria, 72, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell, surrounded by family.

Interment will follow the services at Woodbine Cemetery. No visitation is planned; cremation has taken place.

A rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace.

Adam was born June 6, 1945, in Artesia to Isabel and Lucy “Nino” Chavarria. He was raised in Artesia, where he attended and graduated high school.

Following his graduation, Adam joined and served three years in the Army reserves. He made his living in the oilfields, working for Mack Chase in Artesia.

In 1966, Adam met and married Helen Jaramillo of Hagerman, and the couple raised three children.

Survivors include sons Adam Chavarria Jr. of Las Vegas, N.M., and Michael Chavarria and wife Tish of Carlsbad; daughters Lori Ornelas and husband Lencho of Roswell, and Michelle Gallerito and husband Ustes of Mecalero; sisters Henrietta Chaves and husband Raymond of Carlsbad, and Mary Green and husband Reynaldo of Artesia; brothers David Chavarria and wife Judy, Ishmael Chavarria and wife Lola, Freddie “Boo Boo” Chavarria, Jerry Chavarria and Nick Chavarria, all of Artesia; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Isabel and Lucy; brother Jody Chavarria; and sister Eva Ruiz of Artesia.
