State charges have been filed on 33 defendants in Eddy County as a result of a massive multi-agency investigation into drug and firearm trafficking in the area.

In addition to the 15 individuals charged with federal crimes as a result of the investigation, which was reported in Friday’s Daily Press, the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force (PVDTF) today released the names of individuals for whom state charges have been filed.

On Wednesday, Oct. 4, the following suspects were arrested and incarcerated on the following charges:

• Noble W. Dyess, 30, of Carlsbad, conspiracy to bring contraband into a jail

• Amanda R. Garcia, 28, of Carlsbad, possession of controlled substances and possession of a firearm by a felon

• Leah C. Hayhurst, 31, of Carlsbad, distribution of marijuana and bringing contraband into a jail

• Jade S. Lyon, 40, of Carlsbad, trafficking of controlled substances

• Cruz M. Melendrez III, 32, of Carlsbad, distribution of marijuana and possession of a firearm by a felon

• Aaron J. Ortega, 35, of Carlsbad, trafficking of controlled substances

• Marshall F. Phillips, 36, of Carlsbad, trafficking of controlled substances

• Mark A. Robbins, 28, of Artesia, possession of drug paraphernalia

• Dorie A. Romero, 48, of Carlsbad, conspiracy to commit trafficking

The following individuals have been arrested and incarcerated in the days since the Oct. 4 sweep:

• Monica Estrada, 37, of Carlsbad, conspiracy to traffick controlled substances

• Eric Galindo, 28, of Carlsbad, possession of a firearm by a felon

• Brian King, 29, of Carlsbad, conspiracy to traffick a controlled substance

• Daniel Mauzey, 33, of Carlsbad, resisting, evading or obstructing an officer

• Brian Najar, 45, of Carlsbad, trafficking a controlled substance in a drug-free school zone

The following individuals were arrested Oct. 4 on warrants not related to the primary investigation:

• Jaron Barela, 29, of Carlsbad, probation violation

• Tessa M. Burton, 26, of Carlsbad, failure to pay fines

• Opal M. Corley, 29, of Carlsbad, failure to comply with conditions of probation

• Gabriel Garcia, 30, of Carlsbad, failure to comply with conditions of probation

• Justin T. Garner, 27, of Carlsbad, failure to comply with conditions of probation

• Joshua D. Gauntt, 31, of Carlsbad, failure to comply with conditions of probation

• Ruben Lopez, 26, of Artesia, failure to comply with conditions of probation

• Gonzalo A. Martinez, 25, of Carlsbad, failure to appear

• Jonathan Bodhi Meyers, 44, of Carlsbad, failure to comply with conditions of probation

• Marshall F. Phillips, 36, of Carlsbad, contempt of court

• Carole A. Rauch, 33, of Carlsbad, contempt of court and failure to appear

• Jared E. Walterscheid, 38, of Carlsbad, failure to appear

• Dominic Woodward, 24, of Artesia, failure to comply with conditions of probation

• Valerie Garcia, 38, of Carlsbad, trafficking of a controlled substance

• Hector Hernandez Jr., 23, of Carlsbad, possession of a controlled substance

• Candice Holcomb, 28, of Carlsbad, possession of a controlled substance

• Zenaida Leon, 47, of Carlsbad, trafficking a controlled substance in a drug-free school zone

• Greg Marquez, 29, of Carlsbad, possession of a firearm by a felon

• Randy Nunez, 38, of Carlsbad, possession of a controlled substance

• Michael Perez, 30, of Carlsbad, trafficking of a controlled substance

• Juleigha Pierce, 29, of Carlsbad, trafficking of a controlled substance

• Carl Plum, 63, of Carlsbad, conspiracy to traffick a controlled substance

• Richard Salmon, 54, of Carlsbad, possession of a controlled substance and bringing contraband into a jail

• Sophia Solis, 24, of Carlsbad, trafficking a controlled substance in a drug-free school zone

• James Van Winkle, 35, of Carlsbad, trafficking of a controlled substance

• Jorge Villa, 23, of Carlsbad, possession of a controlled substance

• Humberto Villalba, 55, of Carlsbad, conspiracy to traffick a controlled substance

The PVDTF, DEA, ATF, HSI, New Mexico State Police, Chaves County Drug Task Force, Carlsbad Police Department and ECSO were part of the joint investigation conducted last year.
