The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) is continuing to investigate a tank battery explosion Friday morning near Otis that left three people dead.

ECSO deputies were dispatched just before 11 a.m. Friday to a lease location near the intersection of Grandi and North London roads in reference to the explosion.

Several area fire departments and EMS crews responded to the scene to aid in extinguishing the fire. Once it was contained, three individuals were discovered and found to have suffered fatal injuries.

Both Sheriff Mark Cage and State Land Commissioner Aubrey Dunn expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased, and Dunn says his office is monitoring the situation and cooperating with authorities as needed.

The ECSO Detective Division is continuing the investigation into what caused the explosion. Anyone with potential information is asked to contact Lt. Matt Hutchinson or Martin Yackel at 575-887-7551.
