A vehicle involved in a brief pursuit with Artesia Police Department officers late Wednesday evening was reported stolen, the APD says.

The pursuit began just after 11 p.m. Wednesday on East Main Street. The driver fled an APD officer, ultimately turning on North Bolton Road and accelerating to a high rate of speed.

Due to safety concerns, the officer backed off of the pursuit.

APD Cmdr. Lindell Smith says the vehicle ultimately wrecked and was later reported stolen.
