A 19-year-old was found dead in a New Mexico river this past weekend after rescuers investigated a car submerged in the water.

The Carlsbad Fire Department Dive Team found Thiessen Lambert submerged on Sunday in the vehicle in the Pecos River. The Carlsbad Police Department states tire marks at the scene showed the car was traveling north when it struck a utility trailer and fell into the water.

Police say the cause of the incident is still being investigated. Lt. Jon Blackmon says it was unclear if alcohol or speeding was a factor in the crash.

Blackmon said police are awaiting results from Lambert’s autopsy to determine if he drowned in the accident or if there was another cause of death.
