Rodriquez, 79, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Casa Maria Health Care Center in Roswell following a long and courageous physical battle.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home in Roswell.
Joe was born Sept. 11, 1937, in Alpine, Texas, to Dolores and Manuela (Cervantes) Rodriquez. Through his high school years, Joe played football and ran track for the Artesia Bulldogs, graduating from Artesia High School in 1957.

On July 10, 1957, he married Delfina Lugo in Pecos, Texas. In July, they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage. The couple raised their family in Artesia until moving to Roswell in 1972.

Joe worked as an officer with the Artesia Police Department for a few years before becoming a cross-country truck driver. He was known as “Rod” to his many friends and coworkers. Joe truly loved his career driving a truck. While driving for Groendyke Transport, he became a member of the Groendyke “President’s Club” as a million-mile driver, the first recipient of this award from the Artesia terminal. He would receive the award multiple times throughout his truck-driving career before retiring from Groendyke Transport after 30 years of service.

Joe had a great love for animals and, after his retirement, enjoyed spending time on his land, feeding his chickens and tending to his trees.
