A few weeks ago, I wrote about two Artesia High School Class of 2012 graduates who are poised to make it big in the fashion industry. Since then, Cayce Atwood and Zac Garcia have moved closer to achieving their goals.

Atwood had her final senior design collection runway fashion show April 15 in Lubbock, Texas, and it was just like being present at a New York Fashion Week show or a “Project Runway” finale – ONLY BETTER!

We had seats right on the runway and were up close and personal with the final collections of 11 graduating Texas Tech Apparel Design and Manufacturing students, including Atwood’s. Her collection was very quirky and feminine, and featured lots of detailed hand-beading and embellishments in shades of blue and silver.

Atwood is finishing up her final classes now before heading to New York for the summer to intern with fashion house Lela Rose, and she will officially graduate in late August.

If you are wishing that you could check out some rising stars in the fashion industry, there’s still time — Garcia’s final senior fashion show is May 3 in Las Cruces.

Garcia is part of New Mexico State University’s Fashion Merchandising and Marketing program, and his apparel for men will share the runway with other graduating students from his program. As an extra added attraction, three-time Super Bowl champion Henry Lawrence will be the guest speaker at the show, which will take place in the ballroom of the Corbett Center at NMSU.

Tickets are available at www.eventbrite.com. I’m sure seating will be limited, so get in line early for the best seats!
