Jason Cirio

A former Artesia resident was found fatally wounded Thursday following a shooting in Carlsbad.

Carlsbad Police Department officers were dispatched just after 9 p.m. Thursday to the 2400 block of Idaho Street in Carlsbad in reference to the shooting.

There, they found Jason Cirio, 33, of Carlsbad, suffering from a single gunshot wound. Efforts by EMS to resuscitate Cirio were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, a person of interest has been identified, but no arrests have yet been made.

Cirio was a 2001 graduate of Artesia High School.
