Bobby Durham

Former Artesia resident Bobby Lynn Durham of Bend, Ore., passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017, at his home of heart failure due to dementia.

He was born April 13, 1945, in Lubbock, Texas, to Leonard and Nellie Durham. He attended schools in Artesia, and Levelland and Tulia, Texas, graduating in 1964.

Bobby served with the New Mexico National Guard from 1963-71.

On June 6, 1964, he married Janis Smith in Artesia.

His former employers include Artesia Laundry and Cleaners, the Artesia and Roswell Fire Departments, and Amax Chemical of Carlsbad. Bobby retired in 2002 from Sea World San Diego and moved to Bend in 2011.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bend and Master Mason of Bend Lodge No. 139.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Janis; sons Darin Durham and wife Heidi of Bend, Daryl Durham and wife Tippi of Spring Valley, Calif., and Jody Durham of Rock Hill, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne Durham.

Per his wishes, no formal service was held; rather, his ashes will be scattered at places he enjoyed with his family.
