The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office has reported one of the two individuals being sought as a person of interest in the ongoing investigation into threats against area law enforcement has been arrested.

Robert Matta, 43, of Carlsbad was taken into custody on a felony warrant by the ECSO Detective Division, Pecos Valley Drug Task Force, and Carlsbad Police Department after the ECSO received a tip he was inside a residence on Livingston Road in southern Eddy County.

The agencies surrounded the residence, and Matta exited a short time later without incident. A search warrant for the property was obtained, and investigation into other potential felonies is ongoing by the ECSO Detective Division.

Matta was named a person of interest in the investigation into a plot against Artesia and Carlsbad Police Department officers and ECSO deputies after that plot was uncovered in late January.
