The driver of a motorcycle who was killed Saturday afternoon in a wreck at 20th and Main streets after leading both Eddy County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Artesia Police Department officers on a pursuit has been identified.
The New Mexico State Police, who took charge of the investigation following the accident, say David Moore, 38, of Carlsbad was fleeing an APD officer at a high rate of speed traveling westbound on Main Street when he collided with the rear of an ambulance stopped at the traffic light at 20th and Main.
Moore was transported by EMS to Artesia General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries Saturday evening.
The NMSP say Moore was initially spotted by an ECSO deputy traveling in excess of 100 mph on U.S. 285 South. The deputy attempted to stop Moore, who fled, eventually entering Artesia city limits.
After driving recklessly in various locations around town, he ultimately arrived at the 20th and Main intersection, where the wreck occurred.
The NMSP continue to investigate the incident, and additional details will be reported as they become available.
