George Humphreys

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at Woodbine Cemetery for George B. Humphreys of Artesia.

Humphreys, 90, passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at his home.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday at Terpening & Son Mortuary.

George was born March 30, 1926, in Jefferson County, Miss., the son of Mason and Maggie (Nevels) Humphreys. He came to Artesia in 1951 from Texas.

On April 1, 1974, he married Helen Burnett in Alamogordo.

George owned and operated a trucking business in Artesia servicing the oilfield industry for many years. He was a collector and enjoyed collecting many different things.

Survivors include sons Richard Humphreys of Lampasas, Texas, and George V. Humphreys of Vietnam; daughter Glenda West of Artesia; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Humphreys, on Nov. 20, 2014; his parents; one brother; two sisters; and two grandchildren.
